Liverpool confirm Luis Diaz sale to Bayern in third-most-expensive club departure
Liverpool have confirmed that forward Luis Diaz has left the club for Bayern Munich.
The German champions acquired the Colombian services in a deal worth €75 million (£65.6 m) plus add-ons, making him the third most expensive player to be sold by the Reds.
The 28-year-old joined from Porto in January 2022 for £37.5m and quickly hit the ground running.
He sustained an injury at the start of the 2022/23 season, hindering him from building on his fast start to life with the Reds.
Diaz overcame his injury woes and became a vital player for the club.
He played an instrumental role in the Merseyside outfit’s Premier League triumph last season, netting 13 goals – the second highest tally for the club.
Bayern have been in the market for a new winger following the departure of Leroy Sane. The Bavarians have now signed a suitable replacement in Diaz.
The Colombian star has expressed his excitement about joining the German giants.
He told the club’s official website: “I’m very happy, it means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern – they’re one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my character. My goal is to win every possible title, and that’s what we’ll work for every day as a team.”
Liverpool are not in the market for a replacement for the new Bayern star. Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and youngster Rio Ngumoha are deemed enough to fill the void he left.
Instead of replacing Diaz, they want to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
They are now expected to step up their interest in Isak following the exit of Diaz.
