Man United in talks with representatives of ‘extremely quick' Bundesliga star
Manchester United have stepped up their interest in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko but face competition from Newcastle United for his signature.
Described as ‘extremely quick’ by former Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell, the 22-year-old has been on the radar of Man United before he joined Leipzig.
Vivell is now United’s director of recruitment and could play a significant role in the race for the Leipzig forward’s signature.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Man United and Newcastle are ‘currently in talks with Sesko’s management’ about a potential move.
The Slovenian striker is reportedly ‘impressed with United’s efforts to sign him’.
United and Newcastle have already presented their ‘projects and financial offer’ to the talented striker. The final decision now rests with him and his representatives.
The Mancunian giants are expected to submit their offer to Leipzig if a verbal agreement can be reached with his representatives.
Newcastle have a financial headroom over United, which could give them the advantage of winning his signature.
The Magpies were ready to pay around €75 million (£65.2m at current rate) for French striker Hugo Ekitike, who decided to join Liverpool.
Journalist Ben Jacobs claims they are prepared to pay more than £60m for Sesko, but whether their offer would tempt Leipzig to sell remains to be seen.
The Bundesliga outfit want at least £69.6m for their star striker, which would make him the second-most expensive player ever sold by the club.
United’s pursuit of Sesko signals their intent to bring in a young, mobile centre-forward who can develop into a world-class player and lead the club to glory.
Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa’s marksman Ollie Watkins are also on the radar of the Red Devils, but a deal for any of the duo would also be financially difficult for them unless they recoup enough funds from player sales.
