Tottenham fans react en masse to Morgan Gibbs-White U-turn, ‘Absolutely shocking’

0 3

Tottenham fans were left fuming after Morgan Gibbs-White signed a new contract with Nottingham Forest, effectively ending weeks of speculation over a possible move to North London.

After two weeks of anxious waiting and a constant back-and-forth between Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest, the Morgan Gibbs-White transfer saga has ended.

The saga ends in the worst possible way for Tottenham, as they are set to miss out on Gibbs-White, despite having paid his £60 million release clause and having a medical booked 24 hours later.

In the end, it is Forest who looks to have the last laugh, as Morgan Gibbs-White has now agreed a new deal with the Midlands club that is set to keep him at the City Ground until 2028, one that should see his release clause increase even further.

Tottenham fans react to Morgan Gibbs-White new contract with Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the latest reports on social media, with many left frustrated with how the entire saga has ended.

One fan said: “I better not hear any we need to sell in order to buy s**t now. Go hit the market running. They were willing to splash the cash on this, so do it elsewhere.”

Another added: “Club needs to release a statement explaining this. Absolutely shocking.”

A third stated: “So just a 1-year extension then, no doubt a wage increase and higher release clause. Does not really scream of commitment to Forest does it?”

Another was quick to state his alternative: “Must go all out for Eze now imo.”

One supporter added: “Good, we already wasted 2 weeks waiting. This club has had 14 days now to sort out the second choice and have it ready to go. Odds on that? Levy and ENIC will never change.”

Another fan asked for the club to move on: “Just because the release clause was activated, it never meant that Morgan Gibbs-White had to sign for Tottenham. He always had the choice. Only a handful of people know what went on with this deal. Time for fingers to be pulled out and some transfer business done. Move on…”

A few other fans added: “I mean this just proves he is for the money more than anything lmfao, move on to someone who actually wants to come and play for the club”, while a final fan commented: “That is all he wanted – some interest from another club to bump up his new contract.”

What next for Spurs after missing out on Gibbs-White?

Many Tottenham fans have been urging Spurs to move on from this deal each time a twist emerged, and that sentiment is now back in full force.

With Morgan Gibbs-White signing a new contract and effectively taking himself off the market, Tottenham simply must move on to new targets, and swiftly too.

It could be a tricky few weeks for Spurs, as every club now knows that they have £60 million lying somewhere that they were willing to spend on a midfielder.

It remains to be seen if Spurs will be willing to splash the cash once more on an alternative target, if they still go in for a new attacking midfielder.
