Man Utd now want to sign Idrissa Gueye alongside Brentford & Burnley - report
Manchester United are ready to compete with Brentford and Burnley to sign Metz striker Idrissa Gueye this summer, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils have had a promising transfer window with three acquisitions thus far.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon have been signed, and there could be more additions to the squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
United were linked with Metz wonderkid Gueye earlier this week, and The Sun claim that they are planning to hijack Brentford’s pursuit of him.
Burnley and Borussia Dortmund have also entered the race for the highly-rated teenage striker.
The outlet don’t mention United’s plans for the striker, but highlight that Brentford may now meet Metz’s £15 million price tag due to the fierce competition.
Metz speculation could be agent-driven
The 18-year-old signed for Metz from Senegalese club Generation Foot in January this year.
He made an instant impact with six goals and an assist as Metz were promoted from Ligue 2.
Gueye had a brilliant shot-to-goal conversion rate of nearly 20 percent. He also impressed with his presence up front, winning almost three aerial duels per game.
The youngster could be eyeing a bigger challenge with a move to the Premier League this summer.
Brentford have made the first approach for him after selling Bryan Mbeumo to United, but it is now claimed that the Red Devils, Burnley and Dortmund are all in the race.
In our view, the speculation could be agent-driven to speed up the transfer process.
The Bees could be haggling over the price tag. With United brought into the conversation, the London outfit could reluctantly meet the valuation for the talented ace.
United are on the lookout for promising young talents, but an emerging striker may not be prioritised with Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Chido Obi in the ranks.
The onus could be on pursuing a marquee marksman who can boost their top-four prospects in the Premier League and guide them back to the Champions League.
