Tottenham half-time ratings vs Wycombe as 8/10 attacker shines on his pre-season return

0 3

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their Saturday pre-season double header with a friendly against Wycombe Wanderers at Hotspur Way this morning, and the half-time whistle has now been blown. Let’s take a look at our Tottenham player ratings from the first 45.

Tottenham half-time player ratings vs Wycombe Wanderers

Brandon Austin – 3 – A shock inclusion in the starting XI with all the talk around Guglielmo Vicario vs Antonin Kinsky this week. Absolute howler to let Wycombe score their first shot on target. Went to collect the ball and let it straight through his body.

Pedro Porro – 7.5 – Porro was on free-kicks today with no James Maddison in the side. Played some really nice threaded passes down the right wing for Odobert. Still seems to be inverting a lot into attacking positions, even post-Postecoglou.

Luka Vuskovic – 7 – Started on the right side of the two central defenders. Looked extremely comfortable on the ball and positive in his passing. In fact, the Spurs coaches could be heard urging Tottenham to cycle the ball over to him at times. Looks wise beyond his years.

Cristian Romero – 6 – A steady performance from the Tottenham vice-captain. Front-footed defending as normal, while positive in his progressive passing. Seemed to take to the role of a calming presence next to the young Vuskovic – not a usual state of mind for Romero.

Ben Davies – 4 – Started on the left of a back four, but tucked in and made it a three in the build-up. This left-back/left-centre-back hybrid is arguably Davies’ best position. He was beaten way too easy with a cut inside off the Wycombe right wing when Spurs conceded. It will be interesting to see if Thomas Frank keeps the utility man around beyond the summer.

George Abbott – 6 – Replaced Rodrigo Bentancur in the starting XI at late notice. Persistent and relentless in his pressing, and always positive in his passing. Abbott was always on the lookout for a big switch over to captain Sonny. You can see why many within Tottenham rate him highly. Steady performance.

Lucas Bergvall – 7 – He may be coming off the back of an injury, but Bergvall looked incredibly sharp in the centre of the pitch. Some lovely drops of the shoulder to create space for creativity. Looks to be growing more confidently into a senior midfield role at Spurs.

Pape Sarr – 6.5 – Opened the scoring with a tap-in rebound. Did well to follow the shot in and react faster than anyone else. Played really high up the pitch, more as a centre-forward alongside Richarlison than a central midfielder.

Wilson Odobert – 8 – Created the opening goal with a sharp turn and shot on the edge of the box, with Pape Sarr tapping home the rebound. Even before that moment, Odobert had looked a real outlet down the right wing. The Frenchman was Tottenham’s most dangerous player by far in the first 45.

Richarlison – 5.5 – A quiet half of football from Richarlison. A few nice moments of hold-up play, but he struggled to get himself into the game, despite Tottenham having a fair bit of the ball in the final third. Wasted his one clear chance at goal with a mistimed header.

Heung-min Son – 5.5 – Ballooned the ball over the bar from an early Odobert cut-back. Won a dangerous free-kick with a trademark cut inside off the left flank. Did not look at his sharpest when taking defenders on one-v-one, but he was a constant outlet down that side.
