'No doubt': Amorim makes shock U-turn that could impact Man Utd transfer business
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made a shocking claim ahead of the pre-season friendly clash with West Ham United on Saturday.
The Red Devils previously revealed that Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have all expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.
While Rashford has already secured a loan move to Barcelona, the futures of the remaining four remain uncertain.
Speaking to the press ahead of the game, Amorim opened the door for the four unwanted players to return.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “Some players have to find a new place to have more space in the team, and other players clearly show they want a new challenge and want new teams.
“We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide.
“If we reach a point where they have to join the team, they will join the team because they are our players. I know for a fact, these people, Omar, Jason and the club, have a number for these players.
“If they don’t reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that.”
United could be making a transfer bluff
The Red Devils have struggled to offload their players over the last decade, and the pattern seems to be repeating under INEOS.
Rival clubs are fully aware of United’s urgency to sell, often resulting in low-ball offers and stalled negotiations.
Garnacho fell out with Amorim after the painful Europa League final loss.
The 21-year-old is the most sellable asset, but interested parties may delay their approach, hoping for a cut-price deal as the window nears its end.
With Garnacho seemingly out of Amorim’s plans, United may sanction his sale at a discounted price.
The same situation applies to Antony, who reportedly favours a return to Real Betis following a productive loan spell.
Betis are only keen on another loan and might wait until late August to table an offer.
Amorim’s apparent willingness to welcome the quartet back could be a strategic move to prompt suitors into action.
While Garnacho and Antony may still have a pathway back to Old Trafford, Jadon Sancho’s bridge appears well and truly burned.
The 25-year-old has publicly criticised the club on several occasions, straining any chance of a reconciliation with fans.
His return may not sit well with a large section of fans eager to see the back of him.
United ideally want permanent sales for these four senior players to generate funds and sign a new striker or a midfielder.
