Man Utd ramping up efforts to sign Jackson & Watkins alternative with key figure leading the charge
Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, a player they have admired for years.
According to Absolut Fussball, the Red Devils are now pushing harder than ever to bring the Leipzig star to Old Trafford.
Sesko is once again on their radar after a potential move to Arsenal failed to materialise. The Gunners are now prioritising a move for Viktor Gyokeres, paving the way for United to swoop in for Sesko.
United have reportedly been tracking Sesko even before his move from Domzale to Red Bull Salzburg as a teenager, and again prior to his switch to Leipzig in January 2023.
United’s Director of Recruitment, Christopher Vivell, might play a key role in this pursuit.
Vivell has strong ties within the Red Bull football network, having worked at both Salzburg and Leipzig in key roles over a seven-year period.
That inside knowledge could be vital as negotiations begin to heat up.
Sesko offers a rare mix of physicality, speed, and technical ability. The 6ft4 powerhouse has proven to be a goalscoring machine for Leipzig over the past couple of years, but he’s far from the finished article.
The Slovenian’s profile fits exactly what United have been looking for. He’s an athletic, commanding striker who can lead the line and add goals to United’s frontline.
United have been linked with several strikers over the past few weeks. Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson has been mooted, although that might have something to do with the Blues’ interest in Alejandro Garnacho.
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has also been touted as an option, but the Red Devils are now prioritising a move for Sesko.
Leipzig reportedly wants at least £86 million to sanction a move for the 21-year-old striker.
He will also demand a salary package north of €10m (£8.6m) per year plus bonuses, so United will have to navigate some tough financial waters to get a deal over the line.
With Marcus Rashford set to join Barcelona and Jadon Sancho nearing a move to Juventus, it may not be long until United table an opening bid for Sesko.
