Ex-Bruins Coach Named To Team Canada’s 2026 Olympics Staff

A familiar face will be on Team Canada’s bench during the 2026 Olympics for Bruins fans.

Bruce Cassidy was named as one of Team Canada’s assistant coaches, Hockey Canada announced on Monday. He will be an assistant coach alongside Peter DeBoer, Misha Donskov and Rick Tocchet.

Jon Cooper, head coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning, was named as the head coach last June.

The 2026 Olympic Winter Games will mark Cassidy’s first time appearing in the big event.

The Ottawa native has coached in international events before, serving as an assistant coach for Canada during the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off. With Canada, he helped the team to a championship win after beating the United States in overtime.

Cassidy coached the Bruins for six seasons as head coach and spent a season before as an assistant. He was also an assistant coach for the AHL’s Providence Bruins for three seasons and head coach for five seasons.

In six years as head coach in Boston, Cassidy compiled a record of 245-108-46 before heading to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics is set to open on Feb. 6 with the closing ceremony on Feb. 22.
