Could Red Sox Be Among Teams Calling About This All-Star Pitcher?

Craig Breslow wants to add an impactful starting pitcher to the Boston Red Sox rotation before the MLB trade deadline.

Washington Nationals left-hander Mackenzie Gore certainly would fit that bill.

So could the Red Sox be among the teams making calls on the 2025 MLB All-Star? It’s possible.

New York Post’s MLB insider Jon Heyman reported Monday about a “half dozen teams” are calling the Nationals about Gore. Washington is willing to listen on anyone, though the belief is the ballclub is unlikely to move the 26-year-old, who still has two more years under contract before reaching free agency.

Heyman did not cite any of the teams who are calling.

Gore, though, is in the midst of a career year. He’s compiled a career-best 3.59 ERA in 112 2/3 innings across 20 starts.

Adding that level of production behind ace Garrett Crochet would make the Red Sox a legitimate title contender. However, it likely would come at a steep cost — perhaps similar to a potential package for Minnesota Twins’ Joe Ryan.

That might be too much to stomach for Breslow and company.
