Hammers sign former Spurs defender

0 8

West Ham have officially completed the signing of former Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker-Peters. The 28-year-old was a free agent after being released by Southampton, and has inked a three year deal with the Hammers.

Walker-Peters was widely expected to join Besiktas, but talks between him and the Turkish outfit broke down, and he’s now joined the Hammers instead. He becomes West Ham’s fourth major signing of this summer window after El Hadji Malick Diouf, Jean-Clair Todibo (loan move made permanent) and Daniel Cummings.

Interestingly, all of West Ham’s signings this summer, including that of wing-back Walker Peters, are defensive ones, highlighting that manager Graham Potter thought it was an area in need of some serious reinforcement after a disappointing 14th placed finish last season in the league.

Walker-Peters, a Spurs youth product, joined Southampton in 2020 and made nearly 200 appearances for Saints during his stint at St.Mary’s.

The 28-year-old was a youth World Cup winner with England in 2017 and has also been capped at senior level.

West Ham started their pre-season with a win over Swiss side Grasshoppers and will now travel to the United States, where they will take on Man United, Bournemouth and Everton.
