Latest Chiesa snub could be the final straw at Liverpool
Federico Chiesa has not been included in Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season tour of East Asia, which could be the final straw for him in the Premier League, just one year into his Anfield career.
Chiesa dealt another Liverpool blow
Chiesa, who left Juventus to join Liverpool in a €15m deal last summer, has struggled to force his way into the first-team picture on Merseyside, and was limited to just 486 minutes across all competitions last season. He did not play for more than 135 minutes in any of the four major tournaments that Liverpool took part in last term.
Now, the former Italy international has been omitted from Arne Slot’s travelling squad of Liverpool players for their pre-season tour, which includes an exhibition match against Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday.
That is despite the fact that Chiesa featured and scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke City at Liverpool’s training centre just before the rest of the squad took off for Singapore.
This latest snub could be the final straw for Chiesa at Liverpool after just one season, as he is not currently thought to be part of Slot’s plans for the 2025-26 season, particularly after the arrival of Florian Wirtz and the possible signing of either Hugo Ekitike or Alexander Isak in attack.
There have been several sides in Italy linked with a move for the 27-year-old this summer, including Lazio and Napoli, although the latter are prioritising a move for Bologna’s Dan Ndoye as things stand.
