'Still a possibility': 18yo starlet could leave Man Utd after making debut under Amorim
Manchester United are set for a crucial season after disastrous performances last term.
With the Red Devils struggling to make waves in the transfer market, focus could shift to their prestigious academy.
United already have two promising left -backs, Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass, in their squad.
Diego Leon completed his switch to Old Trafford from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno for an initial fee of £3.2 million earlier this month.
The talented left-back is expected to start his United career with the under-21s but has a chance to impress manager Ruben Amorim in pre-season.
The Athletic have now revealed that “there is a possibility that Amass goes out on loan if it transpires his playing time is likely to be limited as a result of Leon’s arrival”.
United have signed three players this summer – Matheus Cunha (26), Diego Leon (18) and Enzo Kana-Biyik (18).
The club confirmed that Kana-Biyik will be loaned out to Lausanne-Sport for the upcoming campaign.
Leon is an attack-minded full-back with great potential.
He has bagged four goals in 33 senior games.
Wing-backs play a crucial role in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
The Portuguese head coach wants his wing-backs to provide the width and deliver crosses from the flanks.
Leon and Amass will aim to impress Amorim and stake a claim for the back-up left wing-back spot.
Irrespective of Leon’s performances, United must refrain from sending Amass out on loan.
We believe the teenager is an outstanding talent and could take his development to the next level under Amorim.
After putting on impressive performances for the youth teams, Amass made his long-awaited debut for the senior set-up against Leicester City in April.
The Red Devils have already made a mistake by not recognising the talents of Alvaro Fernandez.
They should not make the same mistakes with Amass.
