Red Sox, Draft Pick Came To Mutual Agreement Before Selection

Major League Baseball does not require teams and draft-eligible players to come to any sort of agreement prior to selections being made.

It’s kind of the whole point…

The Boston Red Sox, however, did hammer home some details with one of their late-round selections prior to calling his name into the league offices last weekend. Jack Winnay, a local product who grew up in Newton, Mass. and eventually attended Wake Forest, ended up having his dreams realized when he was selected 388th overall in the 2025 MLB Draft.

“We’ve known him for a long time, and I think he was a guy that even last year we had some draft interest in,” Red Sox director of amateur scouting Devin Pearson said following the draft, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “And just being able to get him this year when we did, we’re super excited. He wanted to be a Red Sox. We wanted him here and it worked out that way. So a fit for both sides.”

Winnay, who plays both corner infield and corner outfield spots, is the exact kind of player organizations like to take late swings on, as he brings a great frame (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) and production (.293/.406/.593 with 35 home runs, 31 doubles, 124 RBIs, 77 walks and 115 strikeouts in 135 games) from his time playing in the ACC.

The Red Sox can work with that.
