How Craig Breslow Responded To Red Sox Fans’ Message About Jarren Duran
Boston Red Sox fans made sure general manager Craig Breslow knows their feelings about Jarren Duran.
Following Thursday night’s victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, fans showed their support for the outfielder amid trade speculation by chanting, “Keep Duran!” at Breslow outside of Fenway Park. The Red Sox’s chief baseball officer smiled at the rallying cry.
Breslow discussed the viral moment before Friday’s win, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
“I thought it was like a reminder of how passionate the fan base is, how invested they are in this team,” Breslow said. “I think that’s why this organization means so much to our fan base.”
Boston’s crowded lineup has sparked rampant chatter ahead of MLB’s July 31 trade deadline. Duran’s name has frequently surfaced on the hot stove, as the Red Sox also have Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony and Masataka Yoshida as outfield options.
Duran has cooled down from a breakout 2024, batting .257/.315/.430 with eight home runs and 15 stolen bases in 95 games. He deposited an MLB-best 48 doubles and tied Corbin Carroll atop the leaderboard with 14 triples last season.
Yet Duran has also developed into a popular player and passionate team leader. Breslow appreciates the fan base’s relationship with someone they’ve watched blossom into a star since he joined the organization as a seventh-round pick in 2018.
“I understand why Jarren is such a favorite of the fans,” Breslow said. “It’s why he’s a favorite of mine. Because he shows up every day, he plays hard. I mean, he’s such a dynamic athlete, and he does everything right on a baseball field. So I get it. He’s a Boston Red Sox, and we’re really happy about that.”
Those sentiments don’t guarantee Duran will remain with the Red Sox in August, but perhaps the fan input will affect Breslow’s decision-making later this month.
