Red Sox Outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela Can’t Stop Winning
The Boston Red Sox refuse to quit.
For the second time in two days, Boston came from behind and took a game from the Tampa Bay Rays.
For the second time in two days, Ceddanne Rafaela was the hero, driving in the winning run. On Friday, it was in a more dramatic fashion, as he took Rays closer Pete Fairbanks deep to win the game.
His message following the game was the same as it was the day before.
“I want to win,” Rafaela said. “When I was at the plate, I was like ‘I can’t get out’…I have to do everything I can, I want to win.”
Rafaela has faced Fairbanks twice before and was 0-2 with a strikeout and a popout. After the game, Rafaela talked about that prior meeting.
“He threw me a curveball and I didn’t swing. Since then, I wanted to see the curveball again. He threw a great pitch, I made a great swing,” Rafaela said.
The outfielder is now riding an eight-game hitting streak. He’s hit ten home runs since the beginning of June, tied for fourth-most in baseball over that span. His presence at the bottom of the lineup makes pitching against the Red Sox a difficult proposition. His speed and instincts in the outfield are an even bigger asset.
Rafaela’s legend continues to grow by the day. If he’s not a star in the city already, he will be soon.
