Tottenham remain hopeful of completing a transfer deal for Morgan Gibbs-White despite a legal threat from Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham Hotspur were hit with an unexpected twist earlier today after it emerged that Nottingham Forest are considering legal action against Spurs, following their move to sign the club’s talisman, Morgan Gibbs-White.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who was instrumental for Forest last season, has unsurprisingly attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City.
But Tottenham acted swiftly, triggering Gibbs-White’s release clause as they looked to beat the competition for his signature.
In fact, following the activation of Gibbs-White’s £60million release clause, it was revealed that Spurs had a medical pencilled in for Friday, 11 July.

The Athletic now report that, despite Nottingham Forest’s legal manoeuvre, the Morgan Gibbs-White to Spurs transfer is still on course to be completed.
The issue, however, is seen as a temporary disruption rather than a deal-breaker, with the £60million clause in Gibbs-White’s current deal, which runs until 2027, firmly in Tottenham’s favour.
Forest, of course, remains unhappy with how the approach was made. They believe that Spurs did not follow proper channels and failed to seek permission before opening talks with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man.
It is understood that the move had been advancing at pace before Forest lodged their complaint, as Gibbs-White was expected to undergo a medical this Friday, but that timeline may now be pushed back depending on how quickly the matter is resolved.
Gibbs-White wants Tottenham move as Spurs eye further reinforcements
Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on 10 July that Morgan Gibbs-White is keen on the switch to Tottenham, which should smooth the process if legal tensions ease.
Should Spurs manage to work their way around Forest’s challenge, then the expectation is that an official announcement will follow, barring any fresh complication.
Tottenham now look set to spend £115million in the last 24 hours alone, but this deal may not be the final piece of business. While the return of Champions League football is undoubtedly a factor, some reports claim that recent spending suggests that Tottenham have either received investment or is close to securing one.
