Celtics Fans Will Love Baylor Scheierman’s Summer League Outlook
The Boston Celtics are getting ready to kick off their 2025 Summer League, and one of the leaders of their team is set to be second-year forward Baylor Scheierman. According to his recent comments, it sounds like he’s ready to get back on the court for the Celtics.
After winning the NBA Finals in 2024, the C’s selected Scheierman with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. He played sparingly as a rookie, averaging 3.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 35.5% from the field.
Despite his early struggles, Scheierman found his way down the stretch and proved he could be a contributor for Boston moving forward. His best game came March 18, when he poured in 20 points to help a shorthanded Celtics squad take down the Brooklyn Nets.
Now, Scheierman will enter the NBA Summer League with some expectations for the C’s. That’s just the way he likes it, though, as the former Creighton star made it clear he’s going to give it his all just like he typically would for Boston during these contests.
“At the end of the day, it’s just basketball,” Scheierman said to reporters on Tuesday. “Regardless if it’s summer league, regardless if it’s in the Garden, regardless if it’s pickup here, my approach doesn’t change. I’ll be diving on the floor for loose balls, hitting threes, blowing kisses to the crowd.”
With several key players such as Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Luke Kornet already departing this offseason, Scheierman could see a bigger role come his way next season. Plus, it’s expected that Jayson Tatum will miss most, if not all, of the 2025-26 campaign after he suffered a ruptured Achilles in the playoffs.
The best way for Scheierman to begin his sophomore season will be to put together a strong body of work during the Celtics Summer League. If he can stand out during these upcoming games, that could go a long way towards helping him earn more minutes during the regular-season action.
There’s no doubt the stakes aren’t as high as they were the last time Scheierman was on the court for Boston, but his mentality isn’t going to change. As a result, he’s a player who is worth keeping tabs on when the Celtics kick off their summer league against the Memphis Grizzlies on July 11.
