City Net Striker Dipo Akinyemi

0 2

Derry City FC have today confirmed the signing of striker Dipo Akinyemi from York City – subject to International clearance.

The 28-year old has joined the Brandywell club on a permanent, multi-year deal as Tiernan Lynch strengthens his squad for the second half of the season.

Dipo moved to York from Ayr United in the summer of 2023 having been the Scottish club’s top goalscorer the previous season.

He was named the Scottish Championship’s Players Player of the Year following that campaign.

Dipo netted 19 times in 64 appearances across all competitions for the Minstermen ahead of his move to the League of Ireland.

Welcoming the newest addition to his squad, City manager Tiernan Lynch said he was really looking forward to working with the striker.

“To be honest we’ve been very keen on Dipo for a while and I’m delighted he wanted to come here.

“His goalscoring record speaks for itself, but that’s only a part of what he gives you.

“He has excellent numbers when it comes to assists and has a very strong work ethic.

“When you’re looking at players to strengthen the group, you’re also very much looking at character as well.

“I have no doubt that Derry City fans will enjoy watching Dipo over the next number of seasons.”
