Cristian Romero update at Tottenham hints at the quiet before the transfer saga storm

0 0

Tottenham have not received any formal approach for Cristian Romero this summer, despite Spanish reports suggesting a major offer from Atletico Madrid is in the works.

It was reported a few days ago that Atletico Madrid are preparing an all-out offer for Cristian Romero this summer, as Tottenham have remained firm in their efforts to keep hold of their World Cup-winning centre-back.

An offer worth around €55m (£46.5m), plus a further €15m (£12.7m) in performance-related add-ons, is reportedly being readied by the Spanish outfit, even though Tottenham are said to be open to considering a package in the region of €70m (£59.2m) for the Argentine.

It was also claimed that Atletico Madrid are not the only ones monitoring Romero closely, with Real Madrid understood to be showing strong interest as well.

Football.london have now provided an update on the Cristian Romero and Tottenham situation. The publication states that Tottenham are yet to receive a new or recent bid for the 27-year-old centre-back.

It is claimed that despite all the noise coming from Spain, it remains quiet on the Romero front at Tottenham. However, that could change in the coming weeks, depending on Romero’s return to pre-season, with clubs still circling and watching developments closely.

Not too long ago, it was also reported that Tottenham are expected to accept a new bid for Romero as Atletico Madrid are said to be intensifying their efforts to sign the Argentine centre-back, but with no offers received yet, it remains to be seen if Romero would depart north London this summer.

Spurs risk losing Romero value if no new deal is agreed

Spurs are desperately trying to keep Cristian Romero at N17, with Daniel Levy reportedly said to have offered the World Cup winner a new deal.

The rumoured contract is expected to make Romero the highest-paid player at Tottenham, which should see him earn more than the £190,000-a-week that Heung-min Son currently takes home.

The Argentine has two more years left on his current deal and, should he fail to agree on new terms or be sold this summer, Tottenham run the serious risk of losing value on a huge asset. Romero could even opt to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2027.
