Former Red Sox Closer Weighs In On Latest Rafael Devers Drama

Former Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers is once again facing criticism after San Francisco Giants radio announcer Will Flemming revealed Devers recently disrespected Giants legend Will Clark.

According to Flemming, Devers was a no-show on three occasions after being invited to take ground balls with Clark at first base. Clark, who blamed bad timing as the probable cause of Devers’ absence, was a little less kind when describing how far he’s willing to go to make sure a meeting takes place next time.

“But Rafael Devers, the next time I’m in San Francisco, your ass will be on the field at first base, just letting you know that,” Clark told No Filter Network’s Eric Byrnes “Even if I gotta go grab you by the back of the neck and drag your ass out there, you will be at first base.”

Clark’s negative experience with Devers mirrors criticisms made by Red Sox legend David Ortiz following the trade last month. Ortiz detailed how text messages he sent to Devers often went unanswered.

On Tuesday, former Red Sox closer and NESN analyst Jonathan Papelbon weighed in on Devers’ recent behavior by way of social media.

“First he ignored David Ortiz, now Will Clark!” Papelbon wrote. “Is Devers this big of a (expletive)?”

In 20 games with the Giants, Devers is hitting .240 with 18 hits, two home runs, nine RBI, and 28 strikeouts in 89 at-bats.
