Red Sox Viewed As ‘Best Fit’ For MLB All-Star Surfacing In Trade Rumors
Ryan O’Hearn is the lone MLB All-Star from the Baltimore Orioles, but his career year hasn’t prevented him from being included in trade rumors.
O’Hearn has an 85% chance of being dealt before the deadline, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan estimated in their recently published story on the “top 50 trade deadline candidates.”
ESPN listed the Boston Red Sox as a “best fit” for O’Hearn, who will be an unrestricted free agent following the 2025 campaign. The Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers also were labeled in the “best fit” category.
“O’Hearn is having an out-of-nowhere career year, hitting over .300 (and with the underlying metrics to support that) along with being on pace for a career high in homers,” ESPN wrote. “He doesn’t face lefty pitchers much at all, and his splits suggest that he shouldn’t.”

O’Hearn, who will turn 32 years old later this month, has spent the last three seasons in Baltimore. This season, O’Hearn has hit a career-best .287 while his .839 OPS is his best since his rookie season in 2018. He has 11 home runs and 30 RBIs in 299 plate appearances.
O’Hearn also has started 38 games at first base and 29 at designated hitter. He’s played all three outfield spots this season, as well. Given the Red Sox already have a crowded group in the grass, O’Hearn would make most sense at first base.
The MLB trade deadline is July 31.
