Watch Red Sox Rookie Roman Anthony Crush First Career Fenway Park Homer
The Boston Red Sox’s offense has been firing on all cylinders lately, and Roman Anthony is one of the main reasons why.
Anthony has broken out over the last two weeks, hitting safely in nine of his last 10 games. He has multiple hits in six of those contests, batting .386/.426/.568 with eight runs, six RBI and six extra-base hits.
The 21-year-old rookie stayed hot on Monday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and powering the Red Sox to a 9-3 rout of the Colorado Rockies.
The homer, which traveled 418 feet into the center-field bleachers, was Anthony’s second career big fly and first at Fenway Park. It was also his first career extra-base hit against a left-handed pitcher.
Anthony’s milestone big fly came off Austin Gomber with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, driving in Romy Gonzalez (who had just tripled) and extending Boston’s lead to 5-1.
He also singled twice and scored a run, lifting his batting line to .250/.354/.397.
The dinger snapped a 17-game homerless drought for Anthony, who hadn’t gone deep since June 16 (the day immediately following the Rafael Devers trade) in Seattle.
Anthony has started to discover his power stroke lately with five doubles over his last 10 games, so it was only a matter of time before one of those hard-hit balls left the yard. With the Rockies in town and a struggling pitcher on the mound on a hot, muggy night, the stars finally aligned.
Anthony’s hot streak has helped spark a resurgence for the Red Sox, who are 7-2 over their last nine games while averaging 8.44 runs per game. They’ve now won four in a row after sweeping the Washington Nationals over the weekend.
With five more games at home this week, Anthony will have plenty of opportunities to try to launch another Fenway homer before the All-Star Break.
