Tottenham fans will enjoy what Kota Takai just said ahead of linking up with Thomas Frank

0 7

Tottenham are closing in on yet another signing this summer, with Kawasaki Frontale already saying their goodbyes to Kota Takai, who is now set to arrive in north London.

Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed the signing of two players this window – Kevin Danso, who was signed for £21 million, and Mathys Tel, who joined permanently for a cut-price of £29.5 million.

A new addition is now edging closer to joining Spurs, as a £5 million fee has been agreed for Japan international Kota Takai.

The youngster is highly rated, despite not being a popular household name, and arrives as a centre-back capable of playing as a right-back, while also being comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Tottenham set to welcome Kota Takai after Kawasaki Frontale farewell

Although an agreement has been reached between Tottenham Hotspur and Kawasaki Frontale, the 20-year-old centre-back has remained in Japan in recent weeks.

However, that is about to change, as the Japanese club has now bid farewell to the defender in what appeared to be his final game for the side.

Following Frontale’s 2-1 win over Kashima Antlers in the J League, where Takai impressed by completing the most passes in the match with 57 and ended his time in Asia on a perfect note, the centre-back also had to say his goodbyes to fans and teammates.

He said: “I have decided to pursue another goal I have had since I was little: To play soccer in Europe.

“From now on, I think there will be higher walls waiting for me than ever before, but I would like to make full use of the experiences I have built up until now.”

Kawasaki Frontale played a video montage in the stadium showcasing Takai’s best moments, finishing with the message: “To Dare Is To Do.”

Spurs set to assess Takai ahead of new season

Kota Takai is expected to arrive at Tottenham sometime this week as the senior players start to return to Hotspur Way for the beginning of pre-season.

Takai has also received plenty of praise from pundits and analysts, who have broken down his five key strengths and weaknesses ahead of his move to the Premier League.

Thomas Frank is expected to assess the centre-back, who has been described as being better than Takehiro Tomiyasu was at the age of 20, ahead of the new season, with competition in the centre-back position at Spurs currently high.
