‘All Signs’ Point To Celtics Star Joining Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have emerged as reported frontrunners in the free agent sweepstakes for a beloved Boston Celtics star.
Boston is in the midst of intense roster turnover. It’s shocking how quickly franchise fortunes can change in the National Basketball Association. Two months ago, the Celtics were eyeing a repeat title. Now, their superstar (Jayson Tatum) is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 season, and they’ve moved on from three rotational players in recent days: Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis were traded, and Luke Kornet signed with the San Antonio Spurs.
Sadly, Al Horford looks like the next domino to fall.
A new report from The Stein Line’s Marc Stein and Jake Fischer indicated on Thursday that “all signs” point to Horford signing with the Golden State Warriors.
Horford, 39, has been linked to the Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers of late. The 2024 NBA champion center averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds on 36.3 shooting from three in 60 games for the Celtics in 2024-25. The five-time All-Star still has value to offer a contender like Golden State.
Contention is the key concept with Horford. It’s what he likely seeks with limited time left in his career, and it’s what the Celtics lack at present.
Had Tatum never ruptured his Achilles, we’d surely be looking at an entirely different situation with Horford.
Instead, a player who should have retired in a Celtics uniform could be taking his talents to the San Francisco Bay and joining forces with Stephen Curry.
