Alex Cora Doubles Down On Career Timeline With Red Sox
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora doesn’t want to do this thing forever.
It’s been something he’s had no problem telling folks over the last few seasons, and has been a particularly loud topic of conversation with Terry Francona visiting his former ballpark this week with the Cincinnati Reds.
Francona — who broke a curse, collected two rings and moved in among the organization’s all-time winningest managers across eight seasons with Boston, is just a few victories away from snagging his 2,000th. Cora was asked if he could envision himself reaching that same number one day, and gave an emphatic answer.
“I don’t think I’m going to get that close,” Cora said, per Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. “I’m not managing for 25 years.”
Cora signed a three-year contract extension with the club that began this season, so you can at least look forward to seeing him for a few more years. The Red Sox might want to put a contingency plan in place, however, as the 49-year-old might not exactly be in this line of work for the long haul.
