Viktor Gyökeres reportedly reaches €60M transfer agreement with European giant

Gyökeres scored 97 goals in just 102 games during a remarkable two-year stint at Sporting CP, helping the club win consecutive Portuguese league titles and a domestic cup.

The future of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres appears to be taking shape. At 27, the prolific forward has made the decision to leave Sporting CP this summer, ending months of speculation that have surrounded one of the hottest names in the transfer market.

According to French outlet L’Équipe, Gyökeres is now closer than ever to joining Arsenal. The report claims that the striker, who recently secured back-to-back Primeira Liga titles with Sporting in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons—along with the 2024-25 Portuguese Cup—has already agreed to personal terms with the Gunners. The deal is expected to run for five years, keeping him at the Emirates Stadium through the summer of 2030.

Gyökeres has enjoyed a remarkable spell in Portugal, scoring an astounding 97 goals in just 102 appearances across all competitions over the past two seasons. His lethal finishing, physical presence, and ability to lead the line have made him a standout performer in European soccer and an attractive target for several Premier League clubs.

Sporting had originally set his release clause at €100 million, but as reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, a gentleman’s agreement between the player and the club reduced that figure to €60 million starting July 1. This clause is now active, making it easier for Arsenal—or any other suitor—to trigger the move.

Gyökeres has already informed Sporting of his desire to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal project. The Gunners, who are expected to offload at least one of their current forwards this summer, see Gyökeres as the missing piece in their title challenge puzzle. His combination of goal-scoring consistency and pressing ability fits well into Arteta’s tactical system.

The Swedish international has earned 26 caps and scored 15 goals for his country. He joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and has since elevated his game to a world-class level. With Arsenal now reportedly ready to meet the release clause, the move could be finalized in the coming days.

For Gyökeres, a Premier League return looks imminent—and if the numbers are any indication, he’s arriving in North London at the peak of his powers.
