Celtics Rumors: This Team Having Trade ‘Talks’ About Kristaps Porzingis
The Celtics made their first trade of the offseason when they dealt Jrue Holiday late Monday night, but that isn’t expected to be their final move.
Another player who could be traded by Brad Stevens and company? Kristaps Porzingis.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Tuesday the San Antonio Spurs are among the teams who have shown interest in Porzingis.
“The Spurs, sources say, have held some exploratory talks about trading for the 7-foot-2 center,” Fischer wrote Tuesday morning. “That would certainly be a fascinating outcome for Porzingis if he were to land with the on-the-rise Spurs alongside the 7-foot-5 Victor Wembanyama.”
The Spurs have been listed as a potential trade partner for the Celtics all offseason. NBA insider Marc J. Spears labeled San Antonio as a potential landing spot for Celtics stars some six weeks ago, noting San Antonio’s draft capital ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft on Thursday.
A deal for Porzingis might not result in the Celtics acquiring the second overall pick, though. Such an asset might be reserved for players similar to Jaylen Brown’s ilk — and there has been speculation that the Spurs could “go after” Brown.
