Everton in talks to bring former Man United midfielder Fred back to the Premier League
Everton are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred from Fenerbahce, as the club looks to strengthen its midfield options ahead of the new season.
Fred’s Revival in Turkey
After a mixed spell at Manchester United, where he lifted only the Carabao Cup, Fred has rejuvenated his career at Fenerbahce. Under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, the 32-year-old impressed with nine goal contributions in 31 Süper Lig appearances last season. His energy and experience in the middle of the park have not gone unnoticed, especially by Premier League scouts.
Everton Eye Midfield Reinforcements
According to reports from Turkey (via Sport Witness), Everton are eager to bolster their midfield and view Fred as a viable option. The Toffees are already in talks with the player’s representatives to explore a summer move.
However, Fenerbahce are said to be demanding around £13 million for Fred—an asking price Everton are reluctant to meet, particularly given the player’s age. Fred remains under contract until 2027, which gives the Turkish giants some leverage in negotiations.
David Moyes Targets a Midfield Overhaul
David Moyes is keen to refresh his midfield. With Abdoulaye Doucouré set to leave on a free, Orel Mangala returning to Lyon, and Idrissa Gueye attracting interest elsewhere, the need for experienced reinforcements is clear. While the likes of James Garner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Tim Iroegbunam offer potential, none bring Fred’s level of experience or Premier League pedigree.
What’s Next for the Toffees?
Fred’s arrival could add depth, leadership, and high-tempo pressing—qualities Moyes values highly. However, much hinges on whether Everton can negotiate a lower fee or reach a compromise with Fenerbahce.
Meanwhile, Everton are also closing in on a free transfer for right-back Kenny Tete and remain on the hunt for a striker, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin expected to depart on a free.
The summer rebuild is well underway at Hill Dickinson Stadium—and Fred could be the first big name through the door.
