Tottenham legend comes out swinging for Ange Postecoglou after ‘okay’ Thomas Frank hire
Teddy Sheringham has spoken out following the appointment of Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur, drawing a line under Ange Postecoglou’s exit and warning the new boss of the pressures that come with managing a club of Spurs’ stature.
Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping that Frank can build on the foundation laid by Ange Postecoglou, who ended the club’s long trophy drought by delivering silverware just two seasons into his reign at Hotspur Way.
Despite the historic success on the continent, Postecoglou’s domestic record ultimately led to his dismissal, with pundits like Tim Sherwood insisting that any manager who takes the Spurs job must maintain competitiveness in the Premier League, above all else.
This appointment marks the biggest leap of Frank’s career so far. Although he arrives with Premier League experience from his time at Brentford, managing a club with Tottenham’s expectations and global reach is a different test entirely, and one that will demand results from the off.

Teddy Sheringham reacts to Thomas Frank replacing Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
Several former Tottenham Hotspur players have endorsed the appointment of Thomas Frank, with Jermaine Defoe among those who publicly praised the Danish coach before the deal was finalised.
Aaron Lennon also expressed support for the new head coach but was quick to stress that the challenge of leading Tottenham is on a different level compared to Brentford, highlighting the gulf in expectation and scrutiny.
Spurs legend Teddy Sheringham has now added his voice to the conversation, stating that while he accepts the appointment, he believes managing Tottenham is an entirely different ballgame to anything Frank has previously experienced.
He said, as relayed by SKYBET: “I am okay with the appointment of Thomas Frank. I know he has done very well with Brentford, but it is a whole new ball game from Brentford to Tottenham. You have got to be a different type of manager and experience different expectations.
“Thomas has done very well at Brentford but it is a big difference managing at Tottenham and it will be interesting to see how that materialises.
“He is going to want to get his players in, install a new way of playing football which he has to get across very quickly because if he does not, he will start getting under pressure.”
Spurs legend slams Ange Postecoglou sacking
The former Tottenham striker also shared his thoughts on Ange Postecoglou’s sacking, making it clear that he remains devastated by the decision and simply cannot understand why the club parted ways with the man who finally ended their long wait for a trophy.
He said: “I think when you win a European trophy, any trophy, you deserve to carry on. I know Erik ten Hag has been mentioned, that Manchester United had to get rid of him after 15 games but it is a different football club.
“I understand that Ange Postecoglou did some things wrong in the football club, but when you win a European trophy, some things have to be overlooked, and he should have been given time.
“We are not talking about any other club, we have been ridiculed at Tottenham for not winning anything for years and he has won something, so give the man a chance.
“He told us he was going to win something in his second year, and he did it, so he should have gone on from there. I was very surprised – I understand where people are coming from, looking at the league position, but he did not care about the league position, it was all about winning something. His remit at the start of the two years was to win something at Tottenham and he won but got the sack at the end of that conversation.
“I think it has been a harsh realisation for everyone concerned with Tottenham and I am still devastated for Ange, that he has lost his job in that manner when you look back at the deeper effects of what has gone on in the season.”
Daniel Levy has since come out to thank Ange Postecoglou for his time at Tottenham, revealing that he does not regret appointing him as manager.
However, the Spurs chairman also stated that it remains his ambition to win the Premier League and the Champions League, and with Ange finishing in 17th place, Levy has decided he is not the man to lead Tottenham to glory, despite his Europa League triumph.
