Rafael Devers Admits Facing Red Sox Produces ‘Strange’ Feeling
Rafael Devers has always been a man of few words, but he has likely never been less interested in talking to members of the media than he was Friday.
Devers, who was traded to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, spoke for a not-inconsiderable amount of time in the home dugout at Oracle Park, fielding questions ahead of Friday’s series-opening matchup with the Boston Red Sox. It’s safe to assume he knew what kind of questions were coming, but that doesn’t mean he spent any time prepping answers.
Did you expect anything other than that, though?
“I already said, that’s in the past,” Devers said, dodging the majority of questions relating to the most shocking trade in recent baseball history. “I really don’t want to talk about it. I want to concentrate on what’s in the future for me.”
It’s quite rare that a player ends up playing his former club within a week of being traded to the opposite coast and an entirely different league, though.
Devers even had to admit that much, doing so while also sharing some news that might help ease the pain for fans of his former club.
“I saw them. I spent some time with them,” Devers said of his former teammates. “It’s kind of strange to see them so soon.”
The Red Sox and Giants will compete in the highly-anticipated reunion game on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 10:15 p.m. ET, following an hour of pregame coverage on NESN.
