Alex Cora Shuts Down Rumor Of Kristian Campbell-Rafael Devers Tension

After Rafael Devers was traded to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, rumors spread about what was going on inside the Red Sox clubhouse.

Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow disputed rumors during his media availability on Monday, but one rumor continued to go around: Devers was offended rookie Kristian Campbell asked to play first base.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora, however, shut down the notion as he revealed he was the one who asked Campbell if he would play the first base.

“Kristian Campbell didn’t ask to play first base,” Cora told reporters on Tuesday, as reported by WEEI. “I talked to him about it and he was willing to try it.”

When asked if there was tension between Devers and Campbell, Cora said he hadn’t heard anything about it until Tuesday morning through the media.

The Red Sox were going to put Campbell at first base during their series against the Atlanta Braves earlier this month but changed their mind. Currently, Romy Gonzalez has been the main player at the position.
