Red Sox Rumors: This Bat Promoted Following Rafael Devers Trade

The Boston Red Sox (kind of) have their replacement for Rafael Devers.

Nate Eaton is being promoted and will join the club for its series against the Seattle Mariners on Monday, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald.

Eaton, 28, will make his second trip with the club after previously spending a few days on the active roster from May 31 to June 2. Eaton signed a minor-league contract with the organization in November, and has made all of his appearances this season with Triple-A Worcester.

Devers, of course, is on his way to join the San Francisco Giants after being dealt on Sunday.

The Red Sox likely view this as a short-term roster move to fill the gap before other, more established players return from the injured list — like Alex Bregman, Masataka Yoshida and Wilyer Abreu. Eaton, who is slashing .274/.357/.453 in the minor leagues this season, can play any three outfield positions, as well as third base, in the meantime.
