Leeds United are confident that they can get a deal over the line to land a midfielder from a Premier League club, despite the fact it would represent a big investment.
The Whites have kicked off their summer recruitment by signing Lukas Nmecha, who will join on a two-year deal when his Wolfsburg contract runs out at the end of this month.
A swoop to land centre-back Jaka Bijol is under way, although Leeds have yet to meet Udinese’s asking price for the Slovenian.
They are also keen on signing Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte, who was on loan at Leicester City last season, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Landing the Argentine midfielder though would need a substantial financial commitment, with an initial fee of €25m mooted, along with another €10m in add-ons.
It is suggested that Leeds are confident they will be able to agree a deal with Brighton for the Argentine and take Buonanotte to Elland Road soon.
Despite his best efforts at Leicester last season, the midfielder could not help the Foxes to avoid relegation.
He made 31 Premier League appearances for Leicester and managed to chip in with five goals and two assists.
With chances at Brighton looking limited, moving to Leeds may make sense for the midfielder, who has been capped by Argentina at senior international level.
Despite the fact he is just 20 years old, Leeds would be getting a player who has already made 71 appearances in the Premier League, giving him good experience of the division.
At Brighton, Buonanotte’s contract still has another three years left to run, which goes some way to explaining the Seagulls’ high price.
As well as operating as an attacking midfielder, the Argentine is also able to play on the right flank as a winger.
