Kyle Walker says Tottenham star was like a ‘rabbit in headlights’ when he first joined

0 14

Heung-min Son is now the main man at Tottenham Hotspur, but Kyle Walker has revealed this was not always the case when the South Korean star first arrived in North London.

It did not take long for Heung-min Son to become a regular starter at Tottenham. Despite competing with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Christian Eriksen, Son’s performances were so strong that Mauricio Pochettino switched his 3-4-3 formation to a 4-2-3-1 to accommodate the Korean international.

The rest is history, as Son has gone from strength to strength. His record at Tottenham speaks for itself. From twice winning the club’s player of the year award, to securing the Premier League golden boot, Son has come a long way since he made the switch from Bayer Leverkusen to Spurs.

However, members of the Tottenham first-team squad would not have known how good the 32-year-old would be, as Kyle Walker has revealed what Son was like when he first joined Spurs.

Kyle Walker reveals close relationship with Heung-min Son at Tottenham

Kyle Walker played alongside Son for two years before departing for Manchester City. While Walker went on to win every trophy on offer to him, Son had to play the long game at Tottenham.

The right-back has revealed how happy he is for Son, with whom he had a close friendship at Tottenham, while also reflecting on how far Son has come since he arrived in North London and took time to adapt to life at Hotspur Way

Walker told The Kyle Walker podcast: “I remember him walking through the door from Leverkusen and it was like a rabbit in headlights. You know, there were big characters back then.

“But we just clicked, there was something between me and him and we just clicked. We had a proper good laugh, me, him, Dele, and Kevin Wimmer were just really close.

“It was just nice personally for him, after all that time, getting to all those finals, being that nearly person, but then to finally do it.”

Walker and Son are both in the tail ends of their careers

Walker has spent the past few months on loan at AC Milan and most recently, he started in England’s 3-1 defeat to Senegal, leaving supporters to question his involvement in Thomas Tuchel’s squad. He has had a brilliant career, but there is no doubt the 35-year-old has already played his best football.

Son is a couple of years younger than Walker, but he could also take a step down in the near future. According to a report, Heung-min Son is more open to a Tottenham exit than ever before.

The Spurs captain finally achieved his dream of winning a trophy at Spurs and he could be up for a new challenge in the near future.
