Why Red Sox’s Jarren Duran Loves Hitting At Fenway Park
Jarren Duran is making the most of Fenway Park’s unique features.
Although yet to replicate last season’s power breakout, Duran continues to rake at home. The Boston Red Sox outfielder is batting .312/.374/.510 in 36 games at Fenway Park this season.
That success likely amounts to more than random variance in a small sample size. Duran, who leads the majors in combined doubles and triples (87) since the start of 2024, has utilized left field’s Green Monster to stockpile hits that don’t leave the park.
“I do love the Green Monster,” Duran told MLB.com’s David Adler. “It’s definitely become my best friend as of recently. We’re having a pretty good relationship so far.”
Duran has hit 14 of this season’s 19 doubles at home. The left-handed hitter hasn’t capitalized on Fenway’s low right-field fence, but he continues to attack the opposite field for extra-base knocks.
According to Adler, Duran has totaled 26 doubles and triples off the Green Monster since 2024. No MLB player has more hits off his home park’s wall.
“Everybody always tells me, ‘Just pull the ball,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m not a pull hitter,'” Duran said. “I see how much shorter it is. I’m like, ‘I wish I could just pull the ball over there.’ But, of course, I use the biggest part of the field, the opposite side of the field.”
Outside of Boston, Duran adjusts his approach to seek the gaps. That occasionally leads to more damage than a Green Monster double, as last year’s All-Star Game MVP has amassed three triples away from Fenway in 2025 after collecting 10 triples on the road last season.
Yet the Monster is the perfect weapon for Duran, a career .281/.343/.466 hitter at home.
“It plays into my game,” Duran said, “so it always works out for me.”
Duran will try to leverage the Green Monster against a trio of starting southpaws (Ryan Yarbrough, Carlos Rodon, and Max Fried) when the Red Sox host the New York Yankees from Friday to Sunday.
