Man Utd & Arsenal on red alert after Benjamin Sesko’s coach advises him on next move

0 6

Benjamin Sesko’s career path seems set: a move to the Premier League is likely.

That is, of course, assuming that a club is willing to meet RB Leipzig’s valuation for the Bundesliga striker.

The Slovenian has enjoyed a productive campaign in the 2024/25 season, registering 21 goals and six assists in 45 games (across all competitions).

Arsenal-linked Sesko is one of the globe’s hottest striking properties – so it’s no surprise to see him tipped to make a switch to the Premier League this summer.

Similarly to Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, however, the 22-year-old forward won’t come cheaply.

Christian Falk now reports that the like sof Arsenal and Manchester United will have to fork out in excess of €70m [£59.6m] to progess in talks. That figure could potentially rise to €100m [£85.2m].

“Benjamin Sesko’s national coach has given him a clear message: he should not go to Saudi Arabia. That would not be good for his career. Leipzig are therefore relaxed about the situation,” the Bundesliga expert exclusively informed CaughtOffside.

“RB Leipzig is willing to talk from €70m. Ideally, however, Sesko should bring any bid up to €100m. Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United are still very interested. However, there has not yet been a breakthrough in the transfer negotiations.

“As both England clubs are not taking part in the Club World Cup, which begins on 15 June, they are under no pressure to sign Sesko in the near future.”

Is Viktor Gyokeres the better option for Arsenal & Man Utd?

That’s a particularly tough call to make for a number of reasons – chief amongst them all being the comparative quality of the Bundesliga and Primeira Liga.

It’s also worth pointing out that Sporting Lisbon are in no mood to accept a low price for their talismanic striker.

In comments relayed by BBC Sport, club president Frederico Varandas confirmed: “I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60m plus €10m because I never promised that.”

For context, it had been speculated for some time that Sporting CP had a gentleman’s agreement with Viktor Gyokeres allowing him to leave for £59m.

The Portuguese outfit won’t look to demand his full €100m [£85.2m] but there’s no guarantee that the Sweden international will be any cheaper than Benjamin Sesko.

Who would suit the Premier League better?

Manchester United and Arsenal are either taking a risk and banking on Gyokeres‘ ludicrous goalscoring prowess, or on Sesko’s youth and involvement in a tougher league.

Players Goals Minutes per goal xG per 90 (non-penalty) in last 365 days
Viktor Gyokeres 54 78.66 0.69
Benjamin Sesko 21 155.14 0.35

For the record, the latter’s xG per 90 falls short of both of the Gunners’ central attacking options in Kai Havertz (0.45) and Gabriel Jesus (0.46).

This doesn’t necessarily suggest Benjamin Sesko is destined to hit the ground running in 2025/26.

However, both Premier League clubs would also run the risk of seeing Viktor Gyokeres struggle to make the leap to a much more intense top-flight.
