Ange Postecoglou makes claim about talks with Daniel Levy over Tottenham future
Ange Postecoglou has revealed what his plans are over the next few days following Tottenham’s Europa League triumph after being asked directly if he will have a meeting with Daniel Levy about his future.
The topic of Postecoglou’s future is something that most Spurs fans don’t care about at this very moment, with many of them on cloud nine after seeing their club win a trophy after 17 years.
Plans are in place for the trophy parade in North London on Friday, and there is no doubt that celebrations will continue well into next week.
However, the Tottenham hierarchy now faces a difficult decision on the Australian’s role, with reports over the last few weeks indicating that Spurs had already begun their search for Postecoglou’s replacement.
Ange Postecoglou reveals his plans for the next few days at Tottenham
Some journalists have said that Postecoglou’s future at Spurs is not assured despite Tottenham’s Europa League success, with the club’s decision-makers thought to believe that the Australian has failed to get the most out of the squad this season.
While the Tottenham boss faces a nervous wait to find out if he will continue at the helm of this project, he has now confirmed that there are no impending plans to hold discussions with the club regarding his future.
When asked if there are any meetings planned with Daniel Levy over the next few days to discuss what comes next at Tottenham, Postecoglou responded (via Football.London): “No, no planned meetings. I haven’t had any discussions, no one has spoken to me about anything. Maybe they felt like they didn’t need to or they were waiting for this game.
“What I do know is, I’ll go back to my hotel room, get my family and friends together, open up a nice bottle of scotch, have a couple of quiet ones, get ready for a massive parade on Friday, play Brighton on Sunday – really important our last home game and we want to finish strong – and then Monday I’ll go on holiday with my beautiful family because I deserve it. And que sera sera.”
Postecoglou admits he is a very relieved man
As Tottenham’s head coach, Postecoglou has faced a level of scrutiny and criticism magnitudes of times higher than what he has experienced over his managerial career, and at times, there were signs that the pressure was getting to him.
However, the Spurs boss has had the last laugh after delivering what he promised, and he has been happy to let his players have the limelight rather than making the win about himself.
Postecoglou was asked about the fact that he stood to the side on his own as the players celebrated with a trophy, and whether that was just a case of him breathing a sigh of relief after what he has achieved.
The Tottenham boss responded: “Ah, there is huge relief. You ask any manager and I’m telling ya, that is the biggest feeling because you carry the weight of responsibility. I think this is maybe our 59th or 60th game this year and that means me and Anthony have been in front of you guys 120 times. Plus the extras we do, that probably 150 or 160 times I’ve been a spokesperson for this football club.
“I know everything I say is important. Fair to say I don’t always get it right. All that kind of responsibility weighs on your shoulders, so it is relief, but I am also a lot older than them guys and I’ve learnt to understand what makes nights like this memorable is to remember them. I kind of stand back and watch everyone else enjoy it. That is all I need.”
