Rio Ferdinand reveals his ‘concern’ for Man United ahead of Europa League final with Spurs
Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final at San Mames Stadium on Wednesday.
The two sides have performed terribly in the Premier League but have fared better in Europe. They now have to win it to secure Champions League qualification.
The Red Devils have won nine and drawn five of the 14 matches they have played. Spurs have lost twice but have won the same number of matches as United.
Former England international Rio Ferdinand has expressed concern for Man United ahead of Wednesday’s must-win game against Ange Postecoglou’s side.
He told Rio Ferdinand Presents: “Physically, we can dominate the team in Europe.
“The only team I have seen us have a big problem with is the Rangers – they are more physically akin to what we play against in the Premier League. So they could go toe-to-toe with us.
“That is my concern with Spurs. If their back four is back, it is a physical back four.
“They have lost a bit of guile and creativity in their team, like (Dejan) Kulusevski, (James) Maddison and so on, but they bring in people who can run – that is the scary part for me.
“I would rather we play against the creators who are not great physically, because we struggle against physical teams.
“The only thing I would say where we have the edge is our bench. Our bench will be better than theirs. Our bench will be people who can impact the game in some way, shape, or form.
“If it comes down to that, which I hope it does not, and we get it done with our first eleven, I think you can rely on our bench more than theirs.”
Tottenham have defeated United three times this season and hope to beat them again to win their first trophy since 2008.
United have met Spurs once in a major final. They clashed in the 2008/2009 League Cup final, with the Red Devils triumphing.
