Yves Bissouma sings the praises of Ange Postecoglou – ‘To have a coach like him’

0 2

Yves Bissouma has said that his relationship with Ange Postecoglou has remained strong despite his lack of game time over recent months and has revealed why the Australian retains a huge amount of respect in the Tottenham dressing room.

Previous Tottenham managers such as Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho started to lose the dressing room towards the end of their spells at N17 as results started going against them.

In fact, even Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he made some mistakes in his final few months at the club, revealing there was some friction with other figures at Hotspur Way.

However, Postecoglou has managed to retain the support of the dressing room even though things have gone from bad to worse for Tottenham on the pitch, which might explain why Daniel Levy has resisted the temptation to get rid of him.

Yves Bissouma explains why Tottenham players respect Ange Postecoglou

Bissouma’s turnaround is a prime example of the current Tottenham head coach’s outstanding man-management.

The midfielder had been struggling for game time over recent months, and Postecoglou had even publicly criticised Bissouma, but the Mali international has now insisted that the pair’s relationship never suffered.

The former Brighton man remarked that the 59-year-old never looks to blame the players and is always focused on helping them improve, which is why the squad continues to have the highest regard for him.

Bissouma said about his relationship with Postecoglou (via Football.London): “It’s never changed. Never changed. We have a good relationship. Like I said, he’s like a dad or uncle for us. He’s always trying to make us understand what he really wants.

“For us, he’s Ange, he’s him. He’s got his idea. He’s trying to help us every time. It’s not easy (the style of play), especially at the start. We have to stick together like what we’re doing, and that’s what we’re doing.

“He’s always protecting us. Every game, when we lose or win. Like I said, he’s got a top mentality. He understands football. He knows it’s up and down. He never blames players. To have a coach like him is something.

“At the same time, with him, we are working hard. We want to improve every game and every training session because it’s really important for us and the club. We’re all here for the club, for the same reason. It’s necessary to be together.”

Bissouma recollects conversation with Postecoglou last month

Last week, Postecoglou revealed that he had told Bissouma a month ago to be ready for his opportunity and that he will be needed in a crucial time in the season.

The Tottenham head coach’s prediction has proven prophetic, with the 28-year-old delivering solid displays in the semifinals against Bodo/Glimt and expected to start the final on Wednesday.

When asked if he can remember his talk with Postecoglou, Bissouma responded: “Yes, of course [I can remember it]. He said everything already, but yes, as a player, it’s really important to stay involved with the team because you don’t know when the team will need you, so you have to work hard to be ready. That’s why we are here as professionals.”
