Michael Dawson tells Daniel Levy what to do with Cristian Romero at Tottenham

0 2

Michael Dawson has spoken about the impact that Cristian Romero’s departure to Atletico Madrid could have on Tottenham and on what Daniel Levy should do when the La Liga club comes calling for the centre-back.

Over the past few weeks, some Spanish outlets have been becoming increasingly confident that the Tottenham centre-back is heading to the Metropolitano Stadium this summer, with some even claiming that Cristian Romero has already agreed personal terms with Atletico.

Romero has even gone public with his desire to play in Spain, with the timing of his comments sending a clear message on what he wants to do this summer.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that there are currently no active negotiations on a new contract between Tottenham and Romero, which perhaps comes as further evidence that the 27-year-old’s time at N17 is about to come to an end.

Michael Dawson says losing Cristian Romero will be a huge blow for Spurs

Despite the increasing speculation, it is thought that there is still a big gap between the two clubs’ valuations of Romero.

Some sources claim that Atletico Madrid are only willing to offer around half of Tottenham’s asking price for Cristian Romero, and Dawson believes that Spurs should not lower their demands.

The former Tottenham captain has remarked that it will be very expensive for the Lilywhites to replace a player of the Argentine’s experience and mentality.

Dawson told Gambling.com: “Cristian Romero is a World Cup winner and I’m a big, big fan of his, but I’m an even bigger fan of Micky van de Ven. The way Cristian plays, he’s all heart and he’s strong. He makes rash decisions at times, but he’s a World Cup winner.

“He’s got that experience, and he has been linked [with a move away], but I’m sure Spurs don’t want to lose him. It would have to be a high price for me to lose him, because how do you then go and replace that calibre of centre-half?”

Will winning the Europa League persuade Romero to stay?

Perhaps Ange Postecoglou’s men will be hoping that beating Man United in Wednesday’s final and securing qualification for the Champions League would help change the mind of the club’s vice-captain.

However, it was revealed by GiveMeSport a few days ago that Romero wants to depart Tottenham irrespective of what happens in the Europa League final.

The report claimed that the former Juventus man has made up his mind to embark on a new challenge after four years at Spurs and has already informed his employers of his decision.
