Tottenham have a good chance of landing discount fee for player Daniel Levy wants

As speculation continues to run rife over whether Tottenham will look to sign Mathys Tel permanently this summer, a fresh report has shed light on what Daniel Levy thinks about the Frenchman.

While the on-loan Bayern Munich forward has shown some signs of improvement over the last month, his loan spell at Tottenham has been disappointing so far.

The Frenchman has failed to establish himself in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven, which potentially raises question marks over his future at N17.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Tottenham do not plan on activating the £45m option to buy Tel and instead want to renegotiate a discounted deal with Bayern.

However, other sources have indicated that Chelsea may pounce on Tel if Tottenham do not take up the purchase option, thus posing a big dilemma for the Lilywhites.

Daniel Levy wants to complete Mathys Tel deal

The print edition of SportBILD (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now confirmed that Tottenham do not intend to activate their option to buy Tel this summer.

They too suggest that the Lilywhites could look to negotiate a discounted deal for the 20-year-old, and that Bayern will be open to re-negotiating a deal for the forward.

Most interestingly, they say that Daniel Levy is ‘particularly interested’ in ensuring that Tel seals a permanent move to Spurs.

The Tottenham chairman has a good relationship with Bayern hierarchy, having negotiated not just the deal for the Frenchman with the German club but also the sales of Harry Kane and Eric Dier.

What Ange Postecoglou has said about Mathys Tel’s future

Despite Tel not making the sort of impact many Spurs fans would have hoped, the Tottenham head coach has been complimentary of the forward.

Ange Postecoglou has praised Tel for his impact of late, admitting that he and his coaching staff have been delighted with the attitude and application the forward has shown.

That suggests that Tottenham are likely to try and sign the France Under-21 international, but the Australian might not have much of a say on the decision, as reports indicate that Postecoglou is likely to depart Spurs this summer.
