27yo star could leave Man Utd as 'contact' made for Serie A ace, he starred vs Arsenal - opinion

Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer transfer window. There could be several additions to the squad for next season.

A marquee striker and playmaker could be prioritised by the Red Devils’ hierarchy. A new goalkeeper could also be targeted.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier today that ‘initial contact‘ has been made with the representatives of Torino shot-stopper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

In our view, his arrival could pave the way for Altay Bayindir’s summer departure.

The 27-year-old joined the Red Devils from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023. He was signed as a backup to Andre Onana, who arrived from Inter Milan in the same transfer window.

Onana has been guilty of making eight errors leading to goals over the past two years, but Bayindir has been unable to dethrone the Cameroonian star for the number one position.

Bayindir has made just nine appearances for the Red Devils to date. His stand-out display came against Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup at the Emirates Stadium in January.

The Turkish star made an outstanding six saves and also denied Martin Odegaard from the penalty spot. He went on to impress in the penalty shoot-out too, denying Kai Havertz.

Bayindir has not been able to replicate the performance since. If Milinkovic-Savic were to join United, it could be Bayindir rather than Onana heading for the exit door this summer.

It is highly unlikely that the former Fenerbahce man will accept the role of a third-choice goalkeeper. United are apparently keen on keeping Tom Heaton for the same next term.

Meanwhile, Milinkovic-Savic would be a fabulous signing. The 28-year-old was previously at United between 2014 and 2015 but left the club after failing to secure a UK work permit.

The Serbian ace has developed leaps and bounds since. He has made almost four saves per Serie A game this campaign with a success rate of 77 percent.

Milinkovic-Savic averages 24 passes per outing with more than seven long balls. He has also saved an impressive four out of five penalties this season.

He would be a better competitor to Onana next term, compared to Bayindir, who does not look a natural when it comes to distributing from the back.
