U21 Professional Development League 2

Team: Loades, Friel, Shann, Manufor, Cuthbert, trialist, trialist, Neill, Vaughan, Neziri, Sutton

Subs: Da Silva, Talla, Sanyaolu, O’Brien

With dark clouds looming at the TSG Elite Training Performance Centre, Callum Loades advanced to just outside the box to head away the ball and Jamie Mauge’s follow-up attempt then flew over the bar.

The Tractor Boys took the lead on eight minutes when Jamie Mauge stretched forward to get the slightest of touches, which was enough to get it over the line.

After the Ipswich striker had been fouled close to the edge of the box, the resulting free kick hit the side netting.

The blustery wind was having some effect on the game, and on the half-hour mark, Rocco Friel belted the ball over the crossbar.

After an R’s player had been fouled, Mr Hughes waved play on, and the move concluded with Rohan Vaughan’s shot just missing the target.

At the other end, Callum Loades made a superb point-blank save from Rio Morgan.

The wind began to subside briefly and with the sun poking through, Samto Boniface’s strike from just inside the box, whizzed past the corner of the target.

With around five remaining, Samto Boniface broke away down the left-flank and as he cut-in, a good interception by Gabriel Cuthbert evaded the danger.

After Rio Morgan had hit the side-netting, Rangers equalised on 43 minutes. Rohan Vaughan took control of the ball in the box before turning and shooting past Woody Williamson. Half-time: 1-1.

As we entered the second-half, after tracking back, Enis Neziri then won the ball and successfully laid it off.

Emmerson Sutton’s excellent ball into the box found Casey Shann, whose powerful shot came off a defender for a corner.

Rangers took the lead on 56 minutes when Emmerson Sutton fired the ball past Woody Williamson from the edge of the box.

Paul Furlong made three changes on 62 minutes when he introduced Joao Da Silva, Archie O’Brien and Philip Sanyaolu at the expense of Emmerson Sutton, Sam Manufor and Rohan Vaughan respectively. Casey Shann took hold of the captain’s armband as he moved over to a centre-back position.

The visitors equalised on 70 minutes following a breakaway, which led to Jamie Mauge slotting the ball home.

Ipswich then had the ball in the net again from Jamie Mauge’s back-heel, but this time it was ruled out for offside.

Joao Da Silva cleared Afi Adebayo’s attempt off the line, but the Tractor Boys went ahead on 77 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. Captain, Tommy Taylor stepped up and made no mistake with his spot-kick.

One of the Rangers’ trialists was forced off on 81 minutes and Lorent Talla came on to replace him.

Archie O’Brien received a booking in the closing stages, and Philip Sanyaolu shot just wide of the target from 20 yards.

It was cup action next for the Development Squad when they took on West Bromwich Albion at Solihull Moors’ ground.
