Man Utd in advanced talks with PSG huncho as he is set to leave Ligue 1 club - Sky Sports journo
Manchester United are in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain sporting advisor Luis Campos over a deal, according to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Portuguese and the Ligue 1 club have been unable to reach an agreement over an extension, and he is expected to leave at the end of the season having entered into advanced negotiations with the Red Devils.
Man United parted with Dan Ashworth as their sporting director last December, and while Sir Dave Brailsford, chief executive officer Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox have been sharing the responsibilities of the position, it appears INEOS are keen to recruit another expert, and Campos could be moving to the Old Trafford club soon.
Having worked as a scout and tactical analyst for Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho in 2012, the 60-year-old became the sporting director at AS Monaco the following year before leaving in 2016.
The Man United target became popular for making the French club a force to be reckoned with during his stint with them, with his contributions eventually helping them win the Ligue 1 title in 2016-17 due to his smart recruitment strategy in the four years leading to their triumph.
He helped them with the transfers of the likes of Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez, Fabinho, Anthony Martial, Ricardo Carvalho, Dimitar Berbatov, Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Geoffrey Kondogbia, and Thomas Lemar, moving on to become the sporting director of Lille in 2017.
Lille won the title in 2020-21, and while Campos left them in December 2020 after a change of ownership, his contributions to their success were clear for all to see and the Red Devils could do with such an influential figure at board level.
He became the sporting advisor of PSG in June 2022, continuing in his position as an external advisor for Spanish top-flight club Celta Vigo before stopping in December 2023, and he could now be on the way to England to join Man United ahead of the summer transfer window.
