Ange Postecoglou reveals heartbreaking news on Lucas Bergvall injury at Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou has revealed what he knows about Lucas Bergvall’s ankle injury, which saw the midfielder miss the first leg of Tottenham’s Europa League semifinal against Bodo/Glimt.
It came as a shock for many Spurs fans when the Swede was not part of the matchday squad on Thursday, with Yves Bissouma being drafted into the starting lineup.
During the game, Bergvall was seen wearing a protective boot and on crutches, which was an extremely ominous sign, given the huge games that the Lilywhites have coming up.
The 19-year-old had been one of the club’s most in-form players over recent months, which is why Tottenham fans were overjoyed when Bergvall signed a new contract last week, but he looks to have become the latest Spurs man to succumb to a significant injury.

Tottenham Hotspur managed to get the job done without their young midfield prodigy, emerging with a comfortable 3-1 win from the first leg.
Tottenham supporters were delighted to see Bissouma deliver his best performance in a long time, but they will hope that the Swede will be back to take his place on the side before long.
Postecoglou revealed in his pre-match press conference ahead of West Ham that Bergvall is likely to be out for the rest of the season – meaning he would miss the Europa League final if Spurs make it there.
Alasdair Gold reports that he said: “Lucas [Bergvall] obviously looks like the injury is probably significant enough to keep him out for the remainder of the season.”
Bergvall will be a huge miss for Tottenham Hotspur
Lucas Bergvall has arguably been Tottenham’s player of the season, so missing him through injury for the two biggest games of the campaign (Bodo/Glimt away and – hopefully – the Europa League final) is a huge blow to the Lilywhites.
This news puts even more emphasis on how important it is for Tottenham to get James Maddison back from his own injury, which he picked up in the second half against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.
Bissouma has a point to prove to save his Tottenham career and he will be determined to take the big opportunity that has just opened up, but missing both Bergvall and Maddison would be catastrophic for Spurs.
