Cristian Romero is willing to put pressure on Tottenham to get what he wants
Cristian Romero, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the North London club this summer, is reportedly prepared to turn up the pressure on the Tottenham hierarchy to get the move that he wants.
Spurs fans may already be sick of the rumours surrounding Cristian Romero’s future, which have gone into hyperdrive over the last few weeks.
It has been widely reported that Atletico Madrid have contacted Romero and have received a positive response from the Spurs vice-captain.
The prospect of a summer transfer to the Metropolitano Stadium for the Argentine was boosted even further last week when Romero admitted that he would love to play in Spain.
What Cristian Romero is planning to do to complete Tottenham exit
According to a report in Marca (as relayed by Sport Witness), Romero made it clear to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of March that he wants a new challenge and encouraged the Premier League club to listen to offers for him.
The outlet claims that Atletico’s interest in the 27-year-old is not new, asserting that the La Liga club have been working on signing the centre-back for the past five months.
Diego Simeone is said to be a big fan of the player while Romero sees a switch to the Metropolitano Stadium as a ‘dream’ transfer.
In fact, it is alleged that the former Juventus man is willing to put pressure on Tottenham to accept any offer that comes their way from the Spanish side.
Atletico do not want to spend big on Romero
Interestingly though, Marca back up what we have heard from other sources over recent days by explaining that the main roadblock for the transfer could be the fee.
They say that while Atletico are very keen on Romero, they do not want to pay much more than €40m (£34m), which falls short of what Spurs want.
It was revealed earlier this week by Mundo Deportivo that Daniel Levy could demand as much as €80m (£68m) for Romero, even though he only has two years left on his contract.
