Lucas Bergvall reveals why he decided to sign new six-year Tottenham contract
Lucas Bergvall has penned a fresh six-year contract with Tottenham and the teenager is already dreaming big, with talk of ambition, growth and gratitude defining his message to the fans.
Tottenham Hotspur announced earlier today that they have tied down Lucas Bergvall to a new six-year deal, sparking widespread excitement amongst supporters.
Bergvall, who has featured 45 times this season with one goal and four assists to his name, has impressed far beyond the initial expectations placed on him.
Signed with development in mind, the Swedish midfielder has already shown maturity and quality beyond his years – he has been one of this season’s standout young talents
Spurs fans have welcomed the news of Bergvall’s contract extension with real enthusiasm. Many have taken to social media urging the club to build around the 19-year-old, pointing to his hunger, passion and consistent displays as a reason to keep faith in him.
Lucas Bergvall signs new Tottenham deal and speaks on club ambitions
Bergvall has now spoken out following the announcement of his contract renewal. The 19-year-old admitted that the past few months have been a steep learning curve, both on and off the pitch, but emphasised how excited he is to commit his long-term future to Tottenham.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I am really excited and really grateful to everyone who has helped me, and I am excited for this journey to continue.”
Explaining why he decided to sign a new contract with Tottenham, Lucas Bergvall said: “It’s a club with great ambitions, I’m really enjoying being here and playing for this amazing football club.
“Short-term, Europa League. Of course, the goal is to win everything. And that’s what we try to do. Now we go on Thursday.”
The midfielder opened up on his personal journey since making the move to England, noting the challenges of adapting to a new environment. “I have learned a lot. Coming to a new country, a new culture…
“Of course, I had Deki (Dejan Kulusevski) helping me a lot in the beginning but still, living on your own, making food and everything… it is not only to be a footballer to train every day, it is everything around it.
“You have to take care of the car, the house or apartment… everything really, so I think I have developed a lot as a person as well as a player.”
He also reflected on how far he has come this season. “I think I worked really hard for this and with help from my teammates and the staff, I have developed a lot this season.
“If you compare to the beginning of the season, I came from the Swedish league, I had a lot to learn and needed to settle down a little bit but I think around Christmas and before that, I started to get more time on the pitch and I started to develop and learn more with help from my team-mates and the staff.”
Spurs hoping Bergvall can shine in Europa League run
Tottenham Hotspur still have something to fight for this season despite a frustrating domestic campaign that has seen them fall short in the Premier League.
With Ange Postecoglou’s men in the Europa League semi-finals, Lucas Bergvall and his teammates will be eyeing a strong finish.
The competition now holds added significance, both as a potential trophy and as a chance to inject positivity into what has been a largely disappointing term.
For Bergvall, the opportunity to lift silverware in his debut season would be massive. It would not only cap off a solid individual campaign but also hint at the bright future Spurs supporters are hoping he can help deliver.
