Tottenham Hotspur midfielder signs new six-year contract with the club

0 0

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed terms on a new six-year contract with one of their most exciting midfield talents amidst a depressing and dismal Premier League season.

Tottenham’s squad looks set for a shake-up this summer, with contracts coming to an end and big-name players keeping one eye on the exit door.

Cristian Romero has allegedly already said yes to a move to Atletico Madrid, while Ben Davies’ contract technically comes to an end, and Heung-min Son enters the final 12 months of his own deal.

Spurs also have the small matter of Mathys Tel to deal with. The Bayern Munich starlet is on loan in North London, and Tottenham have to decide whether to invest in a permanent transfer. Spurs have an option to buy Tel but are keen to negotiate a discount with the Bundesliga giants.

Lucas Bergvall signs new six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur announced on Tuesday evening that Lucas Bergvall has put pen to paper on a new six-year contract, which will run until 2031.

Despite playing football in the Swedish Allsvenskan just last season, Bergvall has gone on to feature 45 times for the Lilywhites so far this season. In fact, the young Swede has become an integral part of the Tottenham engine room.

Glenn Hoddle has already claimed that Bergvall will be a ‘frightening’ player in four years, and the Spurs youngster has now committed the next six to Tottenham Hotspur.

Alasdair Gold has also revealed that Bergvall looks stronger and stronger by the week, likely because he keeps following Dejan Kulusevski’s routine in the Hotspur Way gym.

Spurs likely offered Bergvall a pay rise but they can’t stop there

In the peak days of Mauricio Pochettino, it felt like key players were offered fresh deals every single year. The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Heung-min Son, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Toby Alderweireld and co were always putting pen to paper on new contracts.

That is what every top club has to do. Not only do you have to bring exciting new talent into the squad during the transfer window, but you also have to retain what you already have.

Spurs will find it difficult to convince big-name players to commit to fresh terms after such a disastrous season though, especially if vice-captain Romero jumps ship in the summer.

Keep an eye on Kulusevski, Son, Archie Gray, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mikey Moore, and James Maddison over the coming months. You can see how long every Spurs player has left on their contract here.
