Preview: Motherwell (H)

Hibernian Women host Motherwell at Meadowbank Stadium in the first of five crucial league matches before the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League season’s end. 

The match will kick-off at 7:30pm on Wednesday 30 April in what will be our third last home fixture this campaign. 

The Lowdown

The Hibees head into the midweek match following a crucial league victory over Rangers in EH7 two weekends ago. 

The result puts Grant Scott’s side two points clear in first-place ahead of Rangers – as well as three points ahead of Glasgow City and on eight more points than both Celtic and Hearts, respectively. 

Kathleen McGovern headed in the opener inside 10 minutes before Stacey Papadopoulos struck from range to double Hibs’ lead inside the first 45. The latter earned a spot in the SWPL Team of the Week for her excellent defensive, and offensive, efforts.

There are five matches remaining for the Hibees, with Motherwell's visit to Meadowbank on Wednesday evening the side's third last home match of the campaign.

The Visitors

Motherwell remain sixth in the SWPL table as they reach the halfway point of their first ever post-split top six journey. 

Paul Brownlie’s outfit are winless and without a goal in their post-split league fixtures, losing to Rangers (0-8), Hibs (0-3), Glasgow City (0-3), Hearts (0-2) and Celtic (0-1) so far.

Their last outing, on Saturday afternoon, took place at Hampden Park as the ‘Well lost out 4-0 in their Scottish Cup Semi-Final match-up against Glasgow City. 

Sofia Maatta and Nicole Kozlova netted inside the first 45, before a brace from Kate Lockwood secured Leanne Ross’ side’s spot in the Final. 

The Hibees have the upper hand over this week's opponents over the course of the campaign, winning all three meetings while scoring 12 and conceding zero.
