Patriots Fans Will Love Explosive Running Back’s Motivation For Ball Security
One of the most impressive stats that Patriots third-round pick TreVeyon Henderson had in his collegiate career was his ability to secure the ball.
The Ohio State running back had just two fumbles, which he recovered both, during his first two college seasons. Henderson had zero fumbles in his last 26 college games across two seasons, and lost zero fumbles in 47 games.
It wasn’t an accident that Henderson had such excellent ball security, and the reasoning behind his motivation will undoubtedly make him a fan favorite in New England.
“Very important. That’s something we did almost every week at Ohio State,” Henderson told reporters Friday night during a virtual press conference. “I know when we put the ball on the ground, it’s a high possibility you’re coming out, you’re probably not playing again.
“That encouraged me a lot to hold on to the ball. It can cost a team, especially in those big matchup games. That’s something that I’m looking forward to carrying on to the next level as well, just holding on to the ball.”
Henderson was a champion at Ohio State, led the team in rushing during his junior season, and racked up 3,761 yards and 42 touchdowns over four years with the Buckeyes. He joins Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson in the Patriots’ backfield.
“I’m excited to really learn from those guys,” he said. “I’m excited to be a part of that room. Looking to build and grow with those guys. I’m looking forward to that.”
